Catching up with Caitlin O'Reilly - Swimmer

AIMES Junior Excellence Award Winner 2017

Caitlin has an amazing swimming record, and the next challenge will allow her to take part in a relay with swimming legends while supporting a valuable resource for our community.

The Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust 'Chopper Swim Challenge' swimming Waiheke to Parnell (Judges Bay) on Monday the 26th March. The 20km fundraising swim event is as a relay with a team of swimming legends. 

Team Chopper Squad

  • Caitlin O'Reilly - Youngest female and New Zealander to swim Cook Strait at 12 years, Red Beach Surf Club Rookie
  • Casey Glover - Fastest Cook Strait Swim, English Channel, Taupo Lake
  • Laura Quilter - NZ representative Commonwealth Games, World Champ and World Record Holder Surf Lifesaving.

Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust run two helicopters, one in Auckland and the other in the Coromandel. They have such an important role in our community and help save many lives. Yesterday Caitlin swam from Rangitoto Island to St Heliers a 4.6km swim – just a warm up she says!

While training hard for this event, Caitlin is also preparing for the NZ National Age Group Championship in mid April where she will swim 100 and 200 butterfly.
