Catching up with Alex Verster - Musician

An update from our AIMES Music Award Winner in 2015

Another little update! I am still in the UK doing a lot of orchestral touring, concerts, and recordings. In addition to the usual, some other highlights from the past year include performing with American rock giants Alter Bridge at the Royal Albert Hall, with Eminem at the MTV European Music Awards in Wembly Arena, and playing in Buckingham Palace for the recent commonwealth leaders function where guests included our prime minister as well as the royal family!

Here is a recent video performance (featuring the instrument largely funded by my AIMES Award!). An extract of this video (quite surprisingly) ended up on UK Classic FM’s Instagram yesterday...

Over the following year I intend to create a few more similar video recordings of lesser known romantic pieces - music that should be accessible to any audience even when performed (unusually) on a solo double bass. The idea is to broaden the somewhat limited repertory of this instrument and to encourage students to explore these possibilities, without losing sight of what the role of a bass player should be about: service to music!

Best wishes, Alex
