Catching up with AIMES Alumni Tayla Alexander

I wanted to update you on my plans as you are such an important part of my journey. I hope you are all staying safe, you and the team at North Harbour Club and AIMES are in my thoughts.

We have moved the launch of Bellisima! to next year. As you can image with the pandemic it was not a good time to go to market with a new album and concerts. (The generous contribution from AIMES is safely in a savings bank account for next year).

I was also awarded an opportunity to study in New York later this year with an expert vocal coach and that has also been moved. I am still working with the Auckland Youth Orchestra and they have kindly organised for me to attend a masterclass with a leading Tenor from Germany this Friday. It will be interesting to see how that goes via zoom!

On a positive note I have recently formed the Tayla Made Foundation to help other young classical artists, some of whom will be involved in Bellisima. The initiative has the backing of Perpetual Guardian who will manage the foundation.

It has been disappointing for me to have everything moved until next year but if I consider the suffering and stress other people are going through I consider myself exteremly lucky.

Thank you again for your support, hopefully we will all emerge from lockdown stronger and ready for great things.

Warmest wishes, Tayla.

Tayla has been the recipient of an AIMES Judges Special Award in 2014, and an AIMES Emerging Talent Award (sponsored by Bellingham Wallace) in 2018.
